Practice Emotional Intelligence

Chris and I are continuously learning and practicing our EQ - as it is an essential ingredient in our lives. Emotional Intelligence, learning about emotional intelligence is important because it allows you to better understand and manage your own emotions, as well as recognize and respond appropriately to the emotions of others, leading to improved relationships, communication, and overall well-being in personal and professional life; key aspects include self-awareness, empathy, and self-regulation, which are crucial for navigating complex situations and building strong connections with others.

The few EQ tips I remember

when I'm boiling over...

  1. Bird’s Eye View, Step wayyyy outside yourself and watch.

  2. Journal

  3. Whisper, especially when you’re angry or very charged

  4. Count to ten (or say a prayer) before responding

  5. Choose not to respond (example, wait ten minutes, ten hours or ten days)

  6. Box breathing exercise (breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for four seconds, exhale for four seconds, hold for four seconds and repeat)

  7. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude, give thanks throughout your day

  8. Be in the sunshine and think of joyful thoughts
